Play Gomoku with the rules at hand

Read the aim of Gomoku, then make your first move. Make five or more connected stones horizontally, vertically or diagonally. A full board without a line is a draw. Use the example below to understand a decision. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Practice with a purpose

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Make the next step deliberately.

Understand the aim

Make five or more connected stones horizontally, vertically or diagonally. A full board without a line is a draw. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.

From the start of a round

  1. Player 1 places the first stone on an empty intersection.
  2. Player 2 places a stone and turns alternate.
  3. Look for open lines and block your opponent’s threats.
  4. A winning line immediately ends the round.

How your actions work

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

Work through an example

Four consecutive stones with an empty point at both ends creates two possible finishing moves. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Read the matching step again.

A mistake to avoid

This is freestyle Gomoku, not Renju: there are no special forbidden opening or double-three rules. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
