Backgammon: a guide for your next round
Backgammon gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Bear off all fifteen pieces before the opponent. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.
Local two players; no doubling cube, stakes or remote matching.
Try a more deliberate round
Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Use the example to check your reasoning.
The challenge in front of you
Bear off all fifteen pieces before the opponent. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.
From the start of a round
- Roll and use the maximum legal number of dice; doubles give four moves.
- Enter barred pieces first.
- Points with at least two enemies are blocked; a lone enemy is hit.
- Bear off only after all pieces reach home.
How your actions work
Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.
See how the rules apply
When only one die can be used and either is individually playable, use the larger die. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Keep the controls nearby.
Check this before moving on
An oversized bear-off requires no piece farther from the exit. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
