Tangram: from controls to your first round

Take a moment with Tangram before moving to another game. Fill the square target with seven pieces, without gaps or overlap. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Read the objective before making your first input. Look at what changes after your first action.

Arrange seven pieces into the square target. Rotate or flip a piece to fit; this game currently offers one target shape.

One thing to notice as you play

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Refer to the controls when needed.

The challenge in front of you

Fill the square target with seven pieces, without gaps or overlap. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Drag a selected piece.
  2. Rotate in 45-degree steps or flip it.
  3. Use snapping for precise alignment.
  4. Check the layout or use one-piece assistance.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Mouse/touch dragging and rotate/flip buttons. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Work through an example

The parallelogram may need flipping rather than rotation. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Notice the change in the playing area.

Notice this detail

Overlaps do not count as filling the target. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
